It will be interesting to see whether that helps, or just attracts
vandals.  (I'll start backing up the data more often...)

Currently, no.  What I do is cut and paste into the 
wiki editing window.  (e.g. open the file you want to "upload"
in your favorite editor, click the "EditText" link on the
wiki-page you'd like to edit, then cut-and-paste the text
using whatever method works on your operating system.)
