[HAM] Purchase nonrunning B-2 & JR20 ???B O brejen at amaonline.comSun Jun 1 09:26:09 CDT 2003
This is a multi-part message in MIME format. -- [ Picked text/plain from multipart/alternative ] Humble yo, I have the chance to buy a non running B2 w/JR20 for $400. There is no history available. The cabinets (blonde) are in pretty good shape, the laquer is peeling. I opened the back and could not turn the TWG shaft by hand. Don't know what I would be in for after freeing up the TWG. When I looked at the underside of the lower manual it looked like there was something like laquer peeling off the metal case (what's up with that?). I am not a professional musician but I am obsessed with and need another Hammond fix. I bought my first Hammond project after my second divorce, an S-6($50 at Goodwill). My second organ was a Baldwin Orgasonic($125 at Goodwill), squirels had lived inside and moisture had corroded alot of boards and components, had a builtin Leslie. My third organ was a Conn 606 ($50 at Goodwill), 60+ tubes, 2 octave bass pedals, felt like I was hit by a truck for a few days after moving it. My fourth organ was an M3 ($75 at an estate sale), percussion wouldn't decay, tried everything but zapping because zapping seemed so far fetched... zapping fixed perc (I immediately played an ad libbed Child in Time and Green Eyed Lady). TWG squealed intermittently at first, I saw these strange strings that had tangled themselves around the starter motor, I ripped them out at the roots to stop the binding of the shaft (yeah I know, I was a TWG virgin, I'll ask you guys about fixing that later). So anyway, I have since dismantled the Baldwin (squirel house) after rebuilding and playing it for a while but it was never 100%. I now mostly play my Conn and M3 (in my living room). I have been looking for the last organ I will ever buy(a B3 or C3 or RT3 or A10X or D10X) with a choice Leslie. I need to stop buying organs and told myself that I would never buy another organ unless it was the B3,C3, etc. A B2 wasn't on the list but it is a beautiful work of art, a B2 doesn't have percussion but it would still be fun to play, it doesn't have a Leslie but... Hammond lust has turned me into a rambling idiot! Working on organs has kept me sane. Help? Thanks in advance, DrBurt --
