YORE: [HAM] What would happenWilliam Mark Bristow gracefelch at earthlink.netSun Jun 1 09:30:01 CDT 2003
JD, Are you trying to figure out which outlet you have on the B3? (WARNING: IF YOU'RE UNSURE AS TO ANY INFO HERE - HAVE A QUALIFIED ORGAN TECH LOOK AT WHAT YOU WANT TO HOOKUP!!! I take no responsibility for damage resulting from the information provided here. Proceed at your own risk!) (PS: The info here is gleaned form Uncle Harvey's Leslie Pinout guide on www.captain-foldback.com) Usually older B3's have a standard Hammond Tone Cabinet hookup - either 5 or 6 pin. If you'll look carefully at the Amphenol 5 or 6 pin connectors they are clearly marked, and you should be able to trace the wiring colors up to the preamp. On a Hammond Tone Cabinet or a 122 the pins are 1) Black - Signal (Balanced) 2) Yellow - Ground 3) Gray - AC 4) Blue - AC 5) B+ (approx 300 volts DC) 6) Red - Signal (Balanced) On a Five Pin (Organ) to Six Pin (Leslie) Hookup the 5 pin is 1) Black - Signal (Balanced) 2) Gray - AC 3) Shield - Ground 4) Blue - AC 5) Red - Signal (Balanced) This connects through the regular Leslie Cable to the Six pin (above) on the Leslie - with a 5 pin at the organ there is no connection for the Yellow - B+. A 122 Leslie CAN plug into either of the above, providing you have the appropriate cord - however without either an older Model 8000 Kit or a modern 6122 kit to connect the speaker (additional wiring and components installed in the organ with the fast/slow switch) - the Leslie will only run on FAST -. The Kit takes either 300 volts (B+) DC from the organ preamp, or the B+ (Pin 5) on the 6 pin Leslie cable and divides it down to about 70-80 volts and applies it through an isolation transformer to the 1 & 6 pin of the 6 pin, or the 1 & 5 pin of the 5 pin. That voltage is picked up at the 122 Leslie by one of the 12AU7 tubes and is used to switch the relay to SLOW. A 147 Leslie is wired 1) Black - Signal Ground (Unbalanced) 2) Yellow - Tremolo AC relay control (This is 120 volts AC) 3) Gray - AC power in 4) Blue - AC power in 5) Brown - Tremolo AC relay control ( This is 120 volts AC) 6) Red - Signal (Unbalanced) On a 147 the fast/slow organ mounted switch uses 120 volts AC to switch on an AC relay in the Leslie which controls fast/slow. Though the plugs and cables are identical for a 122 and 147 THEY ARE WIRED VERY DIFFERENTLY with 120 VOLTS AC on PINS 2 & 5 when the organ expects DC voltage on 5 and ground on 2. You could fry both the organ preamp and the Leslie amplifier. A new 122 or 147 Leslie Amp is about $550.00, and there are no new preamps for the organ - so you'd have to find a rebuilt or used. A $45.00 to $100.00 Organ Tech service call to hook the Leslie up (plus the kit price if needed) is much cheaper than experimentation here. Good luck, Mark [ Deleted '-----Original Message-----' ]
