[HAM] M-2

Hey Norm,

I had the exact same issue with an A102 I purchased. Got the generator
going with liberal oiling but the run motor just wouldn't turn. It's a
very weak motor so it doesn't take much to stop it.

I did also oil the motor a bunch (the little square pan on top of the
motor). This still didn't get it going - the motor hummed like it was
getting power (sounds like your case) but no turning. However, by just
taking the motor apart and putting it back together making sure it spun
freely while tightening it up I managed to "fix" or at least "unbind"
it. So I now had the generator/start/run all set but...

Unfortunately, I proved to myself that over oiling the motor pan which
also feeds the scanner/vibrato will cause the scanner/vibrato to
motorboat (Brilliant! :)

So one more run motor removal and a scanner/vib rebuild (all as per the
Hammond-Wiki pages) and a couple days later it all worked.

One funny thing, when I first got the run motor to work I then tried the
vib/chorus (through the A100 internal speakers) and it sounded totally
awful and motorboating. Tried it again after the scanner rebuild -
better but it still sounded pretty awful to my ears! Checked against my
A100 (with Leslie unplugged so only the internal speakers here too) -
and it sounded pretty awful too!

Moral of the story: There's a reason that standard operating conditions
for a Hammond are connected to a Leslie and all rocker tabs UP!

Good luck!

Andy

I'm your basic lurker but do read most of the posts daily. I have
decided to help out the local Masonic Lodge with their organ. They have
an older model M-2 spinet, ser.#35555, that has not been played in
nearly 20 years. I found a frozen tone wheel generator to be part of
the problem. I have freed the generator with applications of AMSOIL and
regular Hammond Oil. The start motor will turn the generator nicely
now. However, the run motor will not turn the generator. It acts like
it's getting power and trying but nothing happens. Do I need a new run
motor? If so where can I get one other than e-bay. Any suggestions
would be appreciated. I believe the little organ is worth salvaging.
Thanks Norm
