No.  Those are known as "horrible crackling and popping sounds".  :-)
They're probably caused by either dirty or loose tube sockets, or
failing electrolytic capacitors.

"Motorboating" is a chopping sound in the vibrato caused by shorts in
the vibrato scanner.
