Hi everyone. For anyone who is in Melbourne, Australia at the moment and who loves balls to the wall overdriven Hammond C3 organ based Progressive Rock / Psychedelic Rock / Space Rock etc , the band Cosmic Nomads will be playing a gig tomorrow night as part of the Progressive Rock night at the Cornish Arms Hotel which is in 163A Sydney Road , Brunswick, Melbourne. Cosmic Nomads are due on stage at 9 PM and the Progressive Rock bands Template and Uncle Chunk will be playing after Cosmic Nomads have finished their 45 minute gig. The admission cost is $10. On Saturday December 16 at 9 PM, Cosmic Nomads will be playing at the Torquay Hotel ( near the Torquay Beach ) . Torquay is further south down from the Victorian city Geelong. On Monday January 1 2007 at 11 AM or 12 PM , Cosmic Nomads will be playing at the Bluestone Festival which will be held at Moriac which is near Geelong. Cosmic Nomads are led by Ray Vanderby who plays a beefed up 1959 C3 ( with a 12AX7 based EQ / Overdrive unit and a spring reverb unit that I have built into Ray's 1959 C3 ) through two early 70s Leslie 925 cabinets and the band also includes Con Patogiannis on Gibson Les Paul Custom guitar played through a Marshall JCM 900 SLX half stack and also on backing vocals , Gina Woods on Wurlitzer EP200 electric piano and a Prophet 600 analog synthesizer , Geoff Brown on Fender 5 string bass played through an Ampeg SVT amplifier , Miam Lentini on drums and Anni Lang on backing vocal and tambourine. Cosmic Nomads music is influenced by the heavy sounding late 60s / 70s bands such as Deep Purple , Uriah Heep , Emerson Lake & Palmer , King Crimson , The Doors , The Who etc and Ray Vanderbys powerful sounding organ playing style and tone is on a similar level as the Gothic sounding British progressive Rock Hammond organists such as Keith Emerson , Jon Lord , Ken Hensley , Tony Kaye , etc , but with his own distinctive character. Last week Cosmic Nomads recorded their new album Vultress at Atlantis Sound Studios. I believe that it will be released next January or February. This new album sounds very good with stunning Hammond playing and I think that it deserves to become a modern classic Hammond Rock album. All the best. Kon
