[HAM] off topic electronic weird puzzleEd Greany crest25 at verizon.netWed Nov 15 14:12:16 CST 2006
Bill, I think 1000' might be a bit far for that kind of hum. Do you get interference on your car radio or small transistor radio? If not, I don't believe it is the power lines. I'm curious how you can get 60hz hum however, if you have no A/C. I'd go to your friendly Radio Shack and they have RF filters just for that purpose (and others). It is a filter you place in line with your twisted pair phone line and you should have no other problems. Incidently, do you have anyone near with a CB or ham radio? If so, you may be getting some input from them however, it usually is not in the form of a hum like 60hz. I'm a ham and will be happy to further advise or suggest to you but visit Radio Shack first to see if that solves the problem. Same on all extensions too? I have a very mysterious electronic happening on my phone. I have a place that is about 1000 feet from power line. I have solar power. No AC. On some phones I get a 60 hz hum. That is with no inverter on. Absolutely no AC. Could hum be picked up from power line 1000 feet away?
