Thanks Ed, I'll head for Radio Shack.

  Bill,

I think 1000' might be a bit far for that kind of hum. Do you get interference on your car radio or small transistor radio? If not, I don't believe it is the power lines.
I'm curious how you can get 60hz hum however, if you have no A/C.
I'd go to your friendly Radio Shack and they have RF filters just for that purpose (and others). It is a filter you place in line with your twisted pair phone line and you should have no other problems. Incidently, do you have anyone near with a CB or ham radio? If so, you may be getting some input from them however, it usually is not in the form of a hum like 60hz. I'm a ham and will be happy to further advise or suggest to you but visit Radio Shack first to see if that solves the problem. Same on all extensions too?

This is question for one or more of you electronic geniousesI hope no one will mind me being off topic. I have a very mysterious electronic happening on my phone. I have a place that is about 1000 feet from power line. I have solar power. No AC. On some phones I get a 60 hz hum. That is with no inverter on. Absolutely no AC. Could hum be picked up from power line 1000 feet away?
