It is a filter you place in line with your twisted pair phone line and you should have no other problems. Incidently, do you have anyone near with a CB or ham radio? If so, you may be getting some input from them however, it usually is not in the form of a hum like 60hz. I'm a ham and will be happy to further advise or suggest to you but visit Radio Shack first to see if that solves the problem. Same on all extensions too?

I have a place that is about 1000 feet from power line. I have solar power. No AC. On some phones I get a 60 hz hum. That is with no inverter on. Absolutely no AC. Could hum be picked up from power line 1000 feet away?
