[HAM] Hammond Model D for sale, $400, Santa CruzKeith Cary kcary at dcn.orgMon Oct 2 15:22:01 CDT 2006
My good friend in Santa Cruz wants to sell his Model D Hammond. That's an old console model, very similar to a C, but with a chorus generator built in. I think it's from the early 40s. I gave it to him for his son to use about eight years ago. It didn't come with a tone cab so I cobbled something together in a couple of hours, literally, using an amp from an old Conn (or some such thing) to supply the Hammond with B+ and to drive a little Leslie 10B that we mounted in some kind of cabinet we got at the flea market. It all worked for a number of years, but then it wasn't used for a while and now it doesn't work at all. I don't live near enough to get it up and running again, but it really shouldn't be too hard, especially if you have a real tone cab or Leslie. He'd like $400 for it, as is. It had been in a church for decades before I was given it. It's worn but not terrible shape, case-wise. I oiled it up a couple of different times, so that should be fine. I dug the sound of the chorus and of the whole organ. With a Trek percussion you'd have a cool Hammond at a good price, if you think you can fix it. As I recall, the last time I was there the TC turned fine. It just seemed like it was no longer getting B+. You can contact me at kcary at dcn.org and I'll get you in touch with Mark. He's a good friend and he doesn't know anything about Hammonds. If you think the price is wildly high, let me know, but it seemed to be in the zone for a couple of people I've contacted.
