[HAM] **SPAM(5.8)** Speaker magnet/distance from output xfmrStainless Brown stainlessbrown at sbcglobal.netSat Oct 14 21:26:53 CDT 2006
Brent, while I don't know if there are specific rules about this I do know that there are more than few tube amplifiers for guitar which are extremely tight fitting with minimal clearance between speaker magnets and the amp components. I guess the proof is in the pudding! Play with the speaker and xformer in close prox and then pull the speaker ( or amp)and see if things change dramatically), while I realize the cabinet/baffle for the speaker has an impact on the sound, I would think electromagnetic influences would be greater with all the EMF around us on a daily basis... this may not really be an issue Stan dr_burt at sbcglobal.net wrote: Hey all, I'm trying to gain some space in my house and decided to make a Franken-Tone Cabinet out of a JR-20 by putting a Q-40's amp and speakers into it. It's a real tight squeeze and took a lot of sawing. The Q-40's amp is pretty big and the output transformer is almost touching one of the 15" speaker's magnets. I already had to extend the lower shelf 4" out the back of the cabinet so the amp would just barely fit. It would seem like the magnet being so close to the output transformer could cause some undesirable results. Are there any rules on distance in this scenario?
