[HAM] B3 question:

I'm 53. I found a hearing test on the net which graphs the frequency
response of your ears (don't remember which site -- there are many, this
was the best of them). I have a good sound card, great amp and great
cans. I found that my ears are pretty much dead at about 12K to 14K and
above. I also brought a great 'scope home from work for a weekend to
check on the test -- it checked out voltage and frequency wise.

My memory supports this hearing loss as I know that I don't hear cymbals
as sounding anything like they did in my 20's. Also, I used to be able
to hear the flyback transformers in TV's when I was a bench tech.

Anyway, after a little more research I found that the frequency response
of my ears is very close to being perfectly normal for a 53 year old
male. I don't like it, but that's 's the reality of the situation.

I happened to be at the office of an ENT specialist this AM. He has a
hearing aid business as well. I inquired about the price of a
professional exam -- $200.00. Ouch! I may try to get a referral from
my PCP to have this done, just so I know.

Getting old is a bitch, but the alternative sucks.

With that being said, I have a B3 and 2 122's and it seems like it is sounding more "bassy" to me. With some drawbar combinations I hear the highs better but with the normal 888000000 with perc on, it sounds like it has lost some highs and also the 888800000 sounds the same. I was wondering what wears out (1957 B3) that could cause the loss of highs (except my hearing). Is that a candidate for recapping or tubes or both possibly? It also sounds like my perc is not as pronounced as it was. If I turn the percussion volume tab on "normal" it is pretty loud, but on soft, I think where most people use it, it sounds like it could be more "out there". Any suggestions would be appreciated. By the way, even if it was perfect, I would still sound like a guitar player trying to play a B3.
