Being argumentative by nature, I must take issue with some of the 
suggestions made in this thread. Not that any of them are unworthy (I would 
probably enjoy every single one of them) but let's look at the thread 
title: "Definitive jazz organ recording." This strongly implies a classic, 
mainstream performance. Right away, that disqualifies MMW because of the 
musical content, and MMW, Larry Young, and Brian Auger because they 
don't/didn't play pedals. "Emergency"??? You got to be kidding! This is a 
recording that makes cats move out of the neighborhood. A definitive 
recording, IMO, uses the Jimmy Smith-style of playing organ bass, which 
also lets out the amazing Rhoda Scott. I totally agree that Groove Holmes' 
"Soul Message" qualifies. YMMV.
