Hi John and others,
I gave the Volume Soft / Normal tab on my C3 a look today.  I could not get down to the switch proper, so I traced the wires to the preamp.  They were the Yellow and Green on the far left.  In Normal position I got continuity across the two wires - in Soft position no continuity.  Strangely, with the test leads in place, the volume did not disappear when the tab was switched to the Soft position - The volume stayed the same as the Normal position.  With the leads removed the volume goes from normal to nothing.

I'm new to organs, but this and other indications make me think a preamp rebuild is in order.

There could be a short to ground in the volume tablet switch.
