[HAM] Definitive jazz organ recording

I'll jump into the discussion and add, that were I a "typical" student, relatively unfamiliar with jazz and the like - medeski would be a wonderful introduction to the art of organ. From there one can easily work 'backward' through the history and get down to the roots of everything. Additionally, MMW seems to me to be one of the true inventors in our modern era of jazz, which is all to commonly full of ridiculous distinctions and labelings. Regardless of whether one gives a damn about the difference between bop and hard-bop, they should be able to get into at least some of medeski's discography - from there, a respect of jazz is built, and then the rest is the proverbial gravy. As a young person, who was "turned on" only about 6 years ago to organ in this respect, and subsequently went head-over heels for "that sound" to the point that I now play in an organ trio and gig a hammond, I wouldn't dismiss the power of their wide-appeal.

? Really?

I would say that Medeski would be a great choice for introducing new
music/funk/hip-hop/avant-guarde organ examples...much more so than "jazz"
(voicings, feel, style, etc.). i never heard him play traditional jazz
though.
