On 9/9/06, Bruce Gordon <ecurbnodrog at yahoo.com> scribed: <snip> > CD's are perfect and pristine, > and wear out slowly, analog falls apart rather > quickly, be it tape or vinyl. BUT...I like vinyl > better because it has *warmth* produced by physical > movement in every phase of sound reproduction. CD vs vinyl, digital vs analog, tube vs solid-state. I have been curious to know the results of a double-blind test between two audio sources: one, the playback of a a vinyl recording on a quality turntable, and the other, a digital recording of that same vinyl recording (using that same turntable). This test would go a long way toward settling the issue, for me at least. This is an argument that will not be suppressed. Just yesterday I was arguing the sonic qualities of two organs - one a '61 A-100, recap with Trek II preamp, the other a BV recap converted to B3 status, percussion, split chorus/vibrato, AO-28. The BV-3 sounded... warmer(?), something attributed by my worthy adversary to the fact that it used a tube preamp. I believe the quote might be something like "You see? I think that is a perfect example of the difference between the solid-state and tube sound." Very sheepishly I replied "Baaaahhh"! It definitely sounded different. One might even say "warmer".
