[HAM] Recapping...Dave Bishop xxcaptinxx at comcast.netMon Sep 18 23:32:53 CDT 2006
>All was done by hand after the inductor trays were in place......and, >incidentally, before the magnests were tightened..........all of this info >from Alan Young, now deceased, former Senior Engineer at Hammond. Hey Mike: There was recently a Hammond factory promo movie from the 50's circulating around that documented the specific process that you are describing, showing the bins, the volt meter, and a tech adjusting the the magnets by hand. I wonder if you were able to see that part of the clip? For the guys who are into recapping, the specifications of that meter and the chart of voltages each magnet was being adjusted to match are sort of a holy grail. I know you once posted that you have a lot of Alan Young's Hammond engineering records, but that they haven't been indexed. Have you been able to discern what equipment the factory used, and what specs the factory was rough-setting, before each organ went into the sound room for the final tune up? I would venture that lots of folks on the list would be interested, especially if the specs or measuring equipment evolved over the years. Regards, Dave Bishop
