Ok, let's do one problem at a time here.

I'm not sure exactly what you mean here, but I'm guessing that you mean 
that the overall volume drops. Flip the "percussion volume" switch over 
to "soft" and see if that changes anything! The upper manual is supposed 
to drop in volume if "percussion volume" is in the "normal" position, 
this is normal operation. Removing this feature is one of the most 
common and popular B-3/C-3/A-100 modifications.

This can be due to a million things, unfortunately. But here's one thing 
to check that's pretty easy: Are all wire connections at the 
preamplifier good? All the percussion circuitry is located within the 
preamp.
