[HAM] Correctamunde: Single louver horn compartment damping material?Bohachewsky, Andrew V. abohachewsky at draper.comTue Apr 3 12:25:19 CDT 2007
A 45 I picked up recently still had the "wadding" (looks like carpet padding?) on the top back panel, I left that in place. Also had the fiberglass insulation in the bass cab all intact held by 30 or so staples. It was getting pretty brittle due to age, I yanked that out rather than let it slowly disintegrate into the bass speaker and lower motor (can't imagine THAT would help the sound...) I am actually interested in this topic, it's just so rife with possibilities for jokes, I just can't help it.... I have seen the insides of far fewer Leslies, I suspect, than many of you. But I have *never* seen one with the wadding intact. What I commonly see is fiberglass insulation hanging down, by one staple, inside the main (bass) enclosure. So I rip it out. I always wonder about it as I throw it away. Without having any actual facts at my disposal, my attitude has been that they sound just fine without it, and why do anything at all to damp the sound? It would be interesting to hear what Leslie's original intention was. -- Subscription Options/Unsubscribe/Archives: http://www.zeni.net/hf/ Hammond-Leslie FAQ: http://theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq/ HammondWiki: http://www.dairiki.org/HammondWiki/ hammond at zk3.dec.com archives: http://zk3.hammondforum.com/
