Sorry, but according to Mike Fulk, Hammond did approve the use of WD-40 on 
the tone generator, as long as its application was followed by Hammond Oil. 
I have used it a number of times with no problems.

Spray it on the engagement gears, scrub with a toothbrush, oil, done.
