I'm sure that using WD-40 on large gears is OK, but Ron Lebar
contacted the makers of WD-40 to ask them about the use of WD-40 to
free sticky bearings. When informed that the TG bearings were
sintered bronze, they replied that the tenacious coating left behind
by WD-40 would clog the pores in the sintered bronze as well as the
capillary threads of the oiling system and that it should NOT be used
either on sintered bronze bearings or where it could be sprayed onto
oiling threads.
