Were you able to get at the threads where they attach *inside* the bell 
that encloses the main bearing? It's riveted, as you know. I got rid of a 
scanner that I couldn't fix for that reason, but it rubbed me the wrong way 
to not fix it! Any tips on replacing scanner threads would be appreciated-- 
I did a major online search last month and got zilch.
