Hello Kon , I wish you Merry Xmas to you down under , I see the specs of the speaker you used in your lesley box : this seems to me a typical speaker that needs a big bass reflex box for best bass pêrformance, since it's real bass spec below 50 Hz drops off rather fast and giving 10 db less for 40 or 30 Hz , such a speaker needs the gain of a good bass reflex box because the effective speaker surface is to small and maybe to stiff in suspension ( otherwise it should have a lower resonance frequency ), it seems to be an overall very good and highly efficient speaker for general instruments but then mounted in a closed speakerbox and not typically good for thundering bass response . if you want the max of response from such a speaker go for the Karlson type speakerbox if you know what that is , you can find some explanation here in this link : http://home.planet.nl/~ulfman/linkbar.htm there is two different plans , I used the biggest 15 inch box and the results are thundering , I can get belly-shaking power , very low down even at 8 Hz wich is about the lowest frequency this bassbox can produce , off course you won't hear it, but you can feel it absolutely, and the whole house shakes and trembles with some 50 effective watts in a box like that If you combine this box with a 200 hz seperation filter and a Lesley for the above 200 Hz frequencies .. that's what I call Real musicpower. I do not see this bassperformance from any lesley box itsself, since lesley's are not intentionally built for the very low down frequencies but more for the mediumfrequency - faseshift and doppler effect , and anyway under 150 Hz in a building it is nearly impossible to locate the soundsource , that's why Subwoofers can be hidden anywhere . If you look at the old big Hammond cabinets , some of them have 11 speakers in them , and the reason is not only the powerhandling , but to decrease the moving speakersurface , so the total effect is a speakerbox with a very lowdown frequency response ; You can make a lot of noise with one mediumsized speaker in the higher frequencyband , but for real low downbass under 40 and 30 Hz you need moving SURFACE ,hence more and larger speakers , and eventually the extra gain from a REflex or Horn -Box , ( or folded Horns ) If you notice : even most PA instalations are not giving frequencies under 50 Hz allthough they make a lot of noise ( 2000 , even 10.000 watts some of them ) now you can argue what is the point of blowing off your pants at 20 Hz and not hearing the sound , Ok to some purist people this is real HIFI . to others HIFI is 110 dB of ear-pain , mostly the younger ( becoming ) deaf generation . But a big Hammond console like the RT2 or RT3 produces what frequency at his lowest pedal ??? do you know it ?? do you feel it ??? or hear it ?? .. your litle lesley box can't produce it I bet .Yes what it will produce is the second harmonic of the fundamental tone , and this will give you the impression of hearing the fundamental tone , but there is a very big difference between feeling the thunder of 30 HZ fundamental tone and hearing the pseudo bass of the harmonic in this case: 60 Hz .. I don't know if anybody does follow my way of BASS -thinking and judging music .. But I like to hear and FEEL all of it , like you feel it, when you are standing next to the big church organ pipes . I built the Karlson speakerboxes in the 60 ties and still use them privately in my homestudio , I also have built several audiosystems in private clubs and a few discotheques and dancefloors , I also have built a few systems for cinema places ( up to 500 and 1000 people seats ) with large Hidden basshorns made in masonery and briks behind the large 25 meters screen .. total power in that time we used was some 250 watts effective from valve amps , this power in higly efficient speakers with DC powered magnetic induction coils ( not the permanent magnetic speakers that are used now ) gave sufficient sound for the whole place I know, younger people are not satisfied anymore with 250 watts , but then , we had a set of normal ears that where not yet spoiled by Ipods playing to loud . And yes I know , blame me for nostalgie ... and yes I am older generation , sorry for that . Anyway all the best to all Hammond lovers Benjamin
