Think what would happen when jazz players tried to play rock or something but they were too hip. You'd get blues progressions, straight eighth notes and a somewhat cornball drum beat. I do love it so. Also add Donaldson's "Everything I Play is Funky", "Midnight Creeper", "Funky Mama". Another classic is John Patton's "The Turnaround" from Let 'em Roll.
