There's a James Brown clip on YouTube - basically him stood in a room
with one of his records playing, where he demonstrates the various dance
steps, including the boogaloo, the mashed potato, and the camel walk
(along with the 'James Brown', of course...)

It is a dance, and it has to be seen to be described. A common example
of a 
boogaloo beat is Lou Donaldson's/Lonnie Smith's old hit, "Alligator 
Boogaloo," though that tune lacks much of the complexity featured in
many 
boogaloos.
