[HAM] Oiling and where to get it...Dave Bishop xxcaptinxx at comcast.netSun Feb 11 15:58:05 CST 2007
A teaspoon in each of the two funnels once a year should do fine, plus eight drops (not more) in the rectangular cup on top of the run motor. You can buy more Hammond oil from the Hammond Store or any other tech. Don't mess with any other type of oil, since many contain waxes that will foul the oiling wicks. As to the C3, the symptems description doesn't correspond to what happens in the electronics. With percussion and Vibrato/Chorus off, everything works correctly on both manuals and both presets? When you turn on the percussion do you lose specific drawbars or specific notes, or do all the notes sound but they are weak and crackly? Based on what you report, with the organ unplugged I would gently wiggle the exposed wires soldered to the front of the pre-amp (marked A, B, C, D and H), with the expectation that you may find a cold solder joint. Then I would spray each of the tube sockets with De-Oxit to see whether cleaning them will bring back the bass sound. If not, I would swap the two 6AU6 tubes between their sockets and see whether the Vibrato/Chorus problem changes from off to on. Finally, I would swap the 6X4 tube with a known good tube on the chance that there is not enough current to power the vibrato and percussion parts of the circuit, but there is enough to run the rest of the pre-amp. After that I would be thinking about dendrites in the vibrato and percussion switches, but I would probably do some diciplined signal tracing at that point. If this is sounding too complex, perhaps a tech should look into it for you. Regards, Dave Bishop
