[HAM] Leslie motors and oilingDave Bishop xxcaptinxx at comcast.netSat Feb 17 13:05:46 CST 2007
I'm just trying to describe my experience. A dry motor usually brings the pitch of the TWG down uniformly, but dry (but working) tonewheels don't drag uniformly, so that some harmonics that are running smoothly tend to stay at pitch and the others drag at varying rates, causing a sort of hunting, or warbling, or nausea. I don't know what words accurately describe the sound of a dry TWG-- there is always some ambient mechanical sound, but a dry TWG has more of it and its higher pitched. Sort of like the difference between a hum and a swish. A dryer TWG will gergle, and a frozen TWG will squeal. A well-oiled Hammond in a quiet room is moderately noticeable. A dry organ can be heard from across the room. YMMV. Regards, Dave Bishop
