Ah, so it must be one of those old, PCB-filled capacitors, and it's 
probably mounted that way to dissipate heat. A modern replacement wouldn't 
need such ventilation. OTOH, what would you fill the hole with unless you 
left that old one in place? I'm talking out of my ass since I haven't ever 
worked on one.
