[HAM] solid state rectifier

It does work, and doesn't always blow things up, though it certainly
may, if not corrected with a resistor which is going to get hot, and
it wouldn't surprise me to learn that it shortens the life of several
components, maybe the output tubes and output transformer. I've done
it several times in guitar amps. I was after those last few watts.
Well, now in my aged wisdom, I think it's not worth it. Besides the
safety of your equipment, the tube rectifier is thought to contribute
to a pleasant compressed distortion. It shuts down a little when it's
asked to source more current than it can, and we often tend to like
that effect. I'd buy a tube.
