The voltage drop in a tube rectifier can be 50V or more depending on
current and tube type. That's a lot of diodes. Perhaps a zener after
the rectifier.

The tube rectifier also has a softer startup - heater delay, and quite
a bit of internal resistance, maybe 100 ohms. This limits the surge
current into that first filter cap upon initial turn on. Depending on
the size of that cap and the transformer winding impedance that can be
quite a bit of current for a moment. A resistance before the bridge
is still a good idea - look at the Leslie amp.
