[HAM] I'm With Him

Well, I'll reply online, since you replied to my post, even though I'm
not the guy you seem to be ranting at.

I had an A100 in really nice condition and was playing out with it. I
still remember the sick feeling I had in the pit of my stomach the
first time it got a pretty good ding in it -- which seems to be
inevitable when you're moving it all the time. I then LUCKED into the
opportunity to make a good professional chop out of it, fortunately
when the cabinet's flaws were easily reparable. The tech already knew
what organ was going to go into the newly empty A100 cabinet.

Now, tell me why I'm evil. I use it to this day. I live in a
high-density area where it's not an option to own a van or trailer, and
for my style (jazz/LH bass) to my ear the clones don't cut it. I guess
you'd say I should take up stamp collecting instead -- and hell, I'm no
Joe Doria as a player. But should a person really live in service of
her or his possessions?

Also, if you do respect the cabinets, you have to be aware of the fact
that beating them to hell on the road is doing irreparable damage. Any
refin you get nowadays is going to be a mere shadow of the original,
with its layers and layers of lacquer. As I posted a few days ago, I
cannot see how, if you're serious about "preserve at ANY cost," you
could argue with the procedure of chopping, setting the cabinet aside
for the day when you're not playing on the road, and then transplanting
back in.

I also gotta laugh at that last paragraph, even though it's not aimed
at me. There's plenty of immature to go around in this thread!

Peace,

Not John but another man of that name.
