[HAM] Communications Breakdown ..David Damroze damroze at excite.comMon Jul 2 16:22:48 CDT 2007
I've been on this list for a short while , about a year I think.
And I've noticed that communications here seem to often breakdown into
flame wars of varying intensities.
As a school prerequisite , I have to take a business communications
class .
One of the ideas presented in this class is the relative importance of
words , voice tone and nonverbal cues such as body language , clothing
etc.
The percentages given are :
The words themselves 7%
Tone of voice , inflection etc 35%
Non - verbal cues 55%
In email , on-line forums etc. the words themselves are the total
message ,
meaning that up to 93% of the senders intended meaning is lost when
the send button is hit.
My impression is that most of the people on this forum are very
intelligent , insightful
people of diverse talents that are also very passionate about a common
item -
the Hammond organ.
Many also have a somewhat satirical , sharp edged wit.
I have no doubt whatsoever , that everyone on here has the best of
intentions and
is sincere about wanting to be helpful , offer sound advise etc.
So , cut each other a bit of slack and allow for the possibility that
the offense you
took may be in your own interpretation of what the other person was
trying to say and
not in their intent.
Or , maybe breathing Hammond oil fumes over the years has a
deleterious effect on the
higher brain functions ;-)
Play on !!!
