[HAM] chopping Hammonds/pricing and availabilityBohachewsky, Andrew V. abohachewsky at draper.comTue Jul 3 09:53:26 CDT 2007
Back in the day a new Hammond/Leslie combo would put you back the price of a very decent NEW car. Twenty years later, the used now twenty year old Hammonds were being sold very cheaply (in comparison). Logistics and cost of shipping/transport only served to depress prices further. Today the love affair with keyboards that are really embedded computer devices has soured somewhat and people are more into the "real, authentic, but older technology stuff" so prices have risen again. Still a lot less than any new car. And with a little looking and perhaps being satisfied with a "non legged" model I would say also considerably less than the combined price of a new Yamaha/Korg/Roland workstation and decent amplification. (I just checked, not that I would want one but on the price of just a workstation seems to be over $3000). As far a cheapskates go I'm right up there - but I feel that it's the height of unreasonable to expect that Hammonds and Leslies should still be priced as they were in the early 80s.
