It was never "Guess That Song," and doesn't deserve to be referred to that 
way. "Blindfold Tests" are a revered tradition begun decades ago by "Down 
Beat" magazine, where they asked famous players to guess who's playing on a 
record; I just stole the idea. In the long history of that column, you can 
find praise from Jimmy Smith for Melvin Rhyne, will wonders never cease. 
Ostensibly, the exercise is to try to recognize the player, based on known 
riffs, styles, and sounds. The reason behind this is to learn something; 
it's a listening exercise, especially if the signature things that a 
particular player does are pointed out afterwards. I learn from it my own 
self because it makes me focus on those things.

The volume of e-mail on this tells me that it is an extremely popular 
feature of this list. If it's not for you I don't blame you, but it should 
be easy to ignore. This has never been an entirely technical mailing list, 
thank god.
