[HAM] Spinet Rescue !Michael Downes lordvader131 at yahoo.comTue Jul 3 16:43:18 CDT 2007
I'm proud of my M101! Anyone who says spinets are crap don't know what their talking about. I keep mine in tip top shape, and any speaker-thirsty guitarist or Hammond chopper with a saw who came near it would walk away not being able to play even the triangle. David Damroze <damroze at excite.com> wrote: My first 3 ( working ) Hammonds were spinets . It saddens me to see them chopped , trashed , parted out , whatever. They appear on Craigslist for cheap or free all the time. Why couldn't a local group agree to sponsor a dozen or so spinets in their area. Pick-em up , get em working reasonably well , and place them in a school music dept , senior center or other such place. Every six months or so , a volunteer does a route and oils them and checks general working condition. a notice is on every instrument with contact info for the local chapter including info on lessons , techs , gigging musicians whatever. Relatively inexperienced people like myself can do the routine oiling and checkup. The veterans can follow up as necessary. The Hammonds are kept alive , commercial dealers may get inquiries from someone interested in a console , musicians get gigs and students , techs get advertising etc etc etc. Schoolkids and grannies get real honest-to-gosh Hammonds to fool with. And , hopefully , the advertising helps offset the economic incentive to butcher helpless little spinets. David D.
