[HAM] Non keyboard chops

Back in the 70's, when Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush were in town, Mr.
Marino was being interviewed by a local radio station. 

He was asked what advice he would give to someone trying to learn guitar. 

His advice was to listen to saxophones and try to mimic them with the
guitar.

Anyone have a specific (non keyboard) instrument that they listen to to get
their chops for Hammonds?
