I'd suggest getting high-quality components in any case.

Is a partial rebuilt useful? Well, it certainly was for me because I got
rid of some really nasty cold solder joints and some "thumps" from the
switches along the way. On the other hand the filter caps of the power
supply still need to be swapped very badly.

One thing's very important: You need to determine the revision of the AO-10
first. There were three revisions of it and all three have slightly
different schematics and values.
