I was a kid learning to play organ in the late 50s, and made my spending $ in high school playing at 3 churches on sundays. My folks (of only moderate means) bought a Baldwin spinet for me (there were no Hammond dealers within 100 miles). I played a B3 at one church, and really did not prefer it to the Conns or bigger Baldwins of the time for church and classical music, because it sounded less like a real pipe organ to me (there were 3 decent pipe organs in my town of 3000). I guess what Im trying to say is what we now worship as the "Hammond sound" didnt really seem to sink in to a larger market till the pop music of the 60s came on, and by then Hammond was on the run from transistors in the larger marketplace. So I doubt if the issue of trying to emulate the B3 foldback and lower octaves in the spinet were uppermost in their minds, or those of the average home or low-end commercial buyers. Although, I never could understand why they couldnt put that upper C on the spinet pedals, there was some very annoying about that...... ----- Original Message ----- From: "Dave Bishop" <xxcaptinxx at comcast.net> To: "The Hammond Forum" <hammond at zeni.net> Sent: Tuesday, March 06, 2007 3:25 PM Subject: Re: [HAM] Xk flee > I seem to recall reading that the spinets were flyin' out the door.
