More good sense and how true it is. At least to me... It seems that these days many have bought into the digital sacred cow to the point that they do not see/feel/hear/sense the shortcomings. There are folks out there how probably find more meaning/fulfillment/satisfaction in a Second Life existence than they do in the real physical world. And you just can't argue with them. I can't bear to play a fake piano or a fake Rhodes. Easy solution for the Rhodes - just grab it and start lifting. The piano is more problematic - limits you to venues that, well, have a piano. A piano would have to be really, really, impossibly bad for me to prefer a digital approximation over it. I don't notice many guitarists using those casio or yamaha midi guitars in any sorts of situations. Think of the possibilities! Nope, no buyers. As for the Hammond clones, I tried that route with an Oberheim clone. I ended up deciding that if it wasn't gonna be the real thing I was just as happy playing a Farfisa which in a weird way was less "boring" than the clone. Someday... All humankind may live a totally virtual existence. I'm glad I'm not living in that future, but hey those folks may be totally happy who knows. And yes it's not only great that all these real musical instruments are still around and working in abundance - they're actually a whole hell of a lot cheaper for us now than they were for the folks 30 years ago! And cheaper than the current fakes as well... On the other hand I must say that I really find the discussions of clone parameter tweaking, gearification and talk of fried/failing motherboards immensely amusing. Not cloning around no more :) Andy -----Original Message----- The above post makes a lot of good sense. This is why any instrument, not only a Hammond, just does not sound like an actual instrument. Personally my ears tire of any digital instrument over a short time period, no matter what it is trying to duplicate. I also find them very boring to play. Someday we may all be forced to have to use these types of instruments but that time has not come yet, so it deosn't make a whole lot of sense to me to use them when the originals are still around and working, in abundance. If I was a trumpet player, I would carry a real trumpet. If I were a piano player I would have a real piano. I am a Hammond organ player, so I have a real Hammond organ. www.HammondStore.com -- Subscription Options/Unsubscribe/Archives: http://www.zeni.net/hf/ Hammond-Leslie FAQ: http://theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq/ HammondWiki: http://www.dairiki.org/HammondWiki/ hammond at zk3.dec.com archives: http://zk3.hammondforum.com/
