Well, actually...and I don't mean to simply disect your post because I do 
understand your context but just to add counterpoint...

I feel they are excellent examples of right and right. Two mofos with their 
own, both equally wonderful.  Marvin is genius, as is James.
James could sing man, without james you just had some killer funk...but it's 
James that makes you remember it (having his own thang). I can't imagine 
another person who would've added all that James did in that situation.
I don't think you need perfect diction to be a GREAT singer, and James is a 
prime example there.
