Well, I wrote you a detailed private e-mail about that funk thing, but 
heard nuttin'. Main idea: "boogaloo" was, or IS, a form of rudimentary 
funk. Funk is also a feeling, not just a restrictive rhythmic definition. 
Funk used to mean "dirt"-- it's a state of mind that involves a strong 
beat, a real looseness, a sometimes dirty sound, lots of blues 
inflection....I think younger musicians who weren't around during the birth 
of funk sometimes have an overly narrow definition that involves 
complicated, interlocking rhythmic figures, which is just one style of funk.
