It's so refreshing to see some common sense injected here. You wrote far more than I was willing to put into this. I said it before, I'll say it again. If gooey foam hasn't damaged the manuals by now, it's probably not going to in the future. The risk of further damage by doing this operation is quite high. Did the original poster say that he has contact problems? I have lost track of that post. If not, he should leave it alone. And the solution to this "problem" is to plunk another manual in there-- far easier and ultimately more cost-effective.
