Well, A small white-hot fire started on pin 7 of one of the EL84s today.
Perhaps if one of you tech geniuses looks at the schematic
(http://www.lynx.bc.ca/~jc/730911_YGM3_4.gif) it will be apparent what the
problem is. While we are at it, if anyone could recommend some good study
material on audio electronic theory I'd appreciate it.  I am pretty quick
with this stuff, always shined in physics classes, but I still can't look at
a circuit diagram and really "get"what everything is doing.
