[HAM] The New B-3

Can't stop progress, that's for sure. Will there be inherent problems with the new B3, even without gears and oil?? What types of problems can we expect to crop up for these new electronic models? Bad chips? Crashing? I wonder what the first guy who uses one live and this happens to him/her during a song? Also will they last as long as a vintage B3 has? It seems the more things change, the more they remain the same... But what will be different? I never had any serious problem with my B on the road, it would run for hours every night and today except for a new relay in the leslie, a replaced broken key, the occasional resolder of the drawbar wires from? doing the cha-cha, and a new? Leslie socket at the base, has most of the parts it came with from the factory, tubes included.

The lack of needing to oil it annually and the expectation of a new
solid state unit presents the expectation of being maintenance free.

The new B3 could in general do as well as the vintage for liturgical
or gospel.

A scratched up vintage unit would be less appropriate in church.

I think a very appropriate concept that has been expressed suggests
that if it sounds shrill push in upper drawbars!

You have built in eq right there!

And are we right in *preferring* the vintage organ with its
crosstalk and generall hash which can be pretty poor when you listen
critically to some individual notes-
- - but enhance playing and listening.

OTOH the new B3 might not fool you by leaving out some drawbars on
some notes if your busbars are dirty!

Some of the complaints of the new B3 are similar to complains about a
recapped vintage unit!

Think about that!
