[HAM] Send in the clonesjoe d joedoria at hotmail.comFri Feb 1 17:16:01 CST 2008
Oh let's get real...that pricetag alone is f'n ridiculous (much les the list price). It's complete BS. Every player I've spoken with doesn't really like the sound, in comparison, but they do like the weight of it. The nordy isn't comparable to the real deal either, but for some reason I was having fun with that thing at a jam. No brawbars though?...why the...? Nevermind. > From: trevor.reynolds at insightbb.com > To: hammond at zeni.net > Date: Thu, 31 Jan 2008 10:06:57 -0500 > Subject: [HAM] Send in the clones > > It seems to me the sadly deluded still persist in their false belief that the new B3/XK-3 system, thru a real Leslie, sounds as good as the real deal. Sure the basic organ tone is "there" just as it was "there" on every clone all the way back to the very first Korg CX3 from the 70's. Actually, I liked the old "Firstman 9000" Hammond clone. I'll bet nobody even remembers that one? Anyway, when it comes to unbridled power, balls, oomph, phatness whatever you choose to call "it" the clones always fall short, don't they? And the new digital B3 is no exception. Take an Xk-3 and/or even a new B3, if you like, and run it into the same Leslie as a real B3. Floor the pedal and play. Nuff said point made. Do it sometime as see for yourself. With all their advertising puffery about how this clone finally "nails it". The manufactures always seem to leave that little detail out don't they? It's their dirty little secret, if you will. They try to suppress, cover up and ignore t! > hat fact. That's because their wimpy B3 sample. "long loop", "short loop", "green loop", "blue loop" whatever catchy phrase for their "new and improved" sample happens to be in vogue at the time still sounds thin and wispy compared to the real deal doesn't it? Hell, even an old M3 or an L100 is at least gonna have the "balls" and "the" sound. And as a side note, I can get those any day of the week for $50. Portabalize that sumbitch with a chainsaw, run it into a "real" Leslie tube amp and go from Deep Purple to Jimmy Smith all night long. Wow, imagine doing all that and not even having to have a conversation with a computer scrolling thru various submenus. _________________________________________________________________ Climb to the top of the charts!
