I was gonna post a followup and add something about the 12AX7, so I'm glad 
you did, Pete. I completely agree. That particular tube is an integral part 
of the expression control circuit and is very much subject to noise. If 
this were my problem, I would also be pulling that tube and cleaning up the 
pins and socket. I repeat my opinion that when the pedal comes to full, the 
slight banging of doing that can cause a vibration that can be picked up 
anywhere in that circuit.
