[HAM] B3 Swell CapacitorJordan Kersten jordankersten at hotmail.comMon Feb 11 09:22:08 CST 2008
Well, it was not the tubes. It also was not even the swell capacitor box. It was the matching transformer! Being I did all my trouble shooting on the spot at the gig friday night, I couldn't really get an accurate diagnoses as to the problem. I went back during the day on Sat and spent about an hour with it. I figured it wasn't the tubes because when I tapped on the tubes, no problems. If I would tap on the swell box, bingo I got this feedback noise. Anyway, all the parts inside the swell box were nice and tight so I was stumped. I then started messing with the transformer. If i took the metal shield off, the problem went away. When I put the shield back on, there came the feedback sound. If I got that metal shield in just the right spot, it wouldn't make the noise. What I ended up doing was keeping the shield on and bending the "L" mounting bracket that attaches the transformer to the cabinet. I bent it just slightly toward the side of the cabinet. I guess the transformer was vibrating on the metal bracket because when I bent it in, the problem went away. I have never had this problem or herd of this problem before. Has anyone ever experienced this? ---------------------------------------- > From: mtcasino at comcast.net > To: hammond at zeni.net > Date: Mon, 11 Feb 2008 10:02:42 -0500 > Subject: Re: [HAM] B3 Swell Capacitor > >> try switching out the 12bh7 and/or 12Ax7 for known good ones (i.e. > non-microphonic).
