Swapping tubes is a cheap way to fault check the pre-amp, but the resistors and capacitors that feed into the tubes can also be the source of hiss or roar. Perhaps you are talking about a "microphonic" tube, that is picking up vibrations from the organ and amplifying them directly. The TrekII pre-amp for this organ lists for $648, plus $187 for the percussion switches, plus labor. For $1,000 you could probably snag an A100. You might want to clarify what you are being offered for a couple hundred dollars. Once the solid state pre-amp is installed it should work very well-- though to my taste it is not the "CV" sound. If you can get it installed for $300, its a very reasonable investment. De-Oxit D5 is available at Guitar Center, some Radio Shack stores, on line at places like Musiciansfriend.com, and from many of the Hammond techs on this list. Here is an example: http://www.partsexpress.com/pe/showdetl.cfm?Partnumber=341-200 You can get replacement tubes from www.tubesandmore.com or www.vacuumtube.com. Regards, Dave Bishop
