Just tried that. Removed the 'tuna can' , checked that I could spin
the rotor with
my finger THEN plugged it in and turned it on.
Nope , rotor not spinning. How DOES that spring clutch thingy work ?

Limited cash flow and a bit of time helps.
Also, having recently ( while on hiatus from this list) experimented
with Yammies,
Wurlies and even a Thomas Trianon, has given me a greater appreciation
for the Hammond.
Those were a lot of fun for such things as the theme from The
Avengers and playing around with
a lounge version of ' Dead Babies' , but then I started trying to
learn Joe Zawinuls ' Mercy, Mercy, Mercy'
and no matter how I futzed around with the sounds on the Thomas the
soul just weren't there. So,
back to Craigslist for a Hammond. I had been talking to the owner of
the M-102 who had originally
asked $200, but then he got to the ' my wife wants it out of here'
point and offered to give it to me. I passed since I don't own a
truck, and besides, it was a ferry ride away in Kingston.
So, I went to look at the T-412 which was closer to home and for $40
, I verifing that, yes, it would fit in the back of my wifes Subaru
( who was out of town on business ) I brought it on home.
After getting the T-412 home and doing the usual cleaning up, I did a
little research on line and realized that
the M-102 is actually smalller then the T , since the T has the rhythm
box on top, and the M-102 would also fit
in the Subaru. So, I e-mailed the guy with the M-102 and made
arrangements to go get it bright and early on a Saturday morning .
That afternoon,
after picking my wife up from the airport, I was certain to take her
for dinner and cocktails before gently
telling her that while she was at her aunts 90th birthday party in
Detroit I had brought TWO Hammonds
home and one of them was in the kitchen of our apartment. Fortunately,
my lovely , kind and understanding
wife, having been raised in the Baptist church as well as being a child
of the sixties and good 'ol soul music appreciates the Hammond sound
and has been quite forgiving .
( am i officially in the cult , yet ?)

And, as far as getting a medal ,having the back-up and advice of the
great people on this forum
gives me more courage to poke around in these things then I should
probably rationally have :-)

David ( fanaticism in defense of Hammondry is no vice...) D.
