[HAM] R.I.P. Buddy Milesgoffmac747 at aol.com goffmac747 at aol.comMon Mar 3 23:13:03 CST 2008
nhoJ, I found out from another friend who knew Buddy that Paul B. Allen owned a jazz club at 24th and Lake, in Omaha, called Allen's Showcase. All the top jazz acts in the '50's and '60's played there .Buddy's Dad, George Miles Sr., used to play upright bass for Duke Ellington, Count Basie, Charlie Parker. ffog -----Original Message----- From: goffmac747 at aol.com To: hammond at zeni.net Sent: Mon, 3 Mar 2008 3:25 pm Subject: Re: [HAM] R.I.P. Buddy Miles According to what I've found out and what I surmised myself, was Paul B. Allen was the singer in the Platters and the Coasters. Allen was born in Omaha. I'm still trying to reconfirm this with others who knew Buddy.. http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendid=153268853 -----Original Message----- From: John Freund <organguy at nj.rr.com> To: 'The Hammond Forum' <hammond at zeni.net> Sent: Sun, 2 Mar 2008 2:10 am Subject: Re: [HAM] R.I.P. Buddy Miles I was never a big fan but I thought he was great for the Band of Gypsies and he had a killer rock shuffle. And yes, he gave us another tune to wear out on pick-up gigs! AND - Molly Hatchet owes HIM for their version of the Allman's "Dreams". There's also a great instrumental organ trio track on the Them Changes record with Andre Lewis on the Hammond. "Paul B. Allen: Omaha Nebraska". Maybe one of you can tell me what/who that's referencing. > Them Changes. > > http://funky16corners.wordpress.com/ - -- Subscription Options/Unsubscribe/Archives: http://www.zeni.net/hf/ Hammond-Leslie FAQ: http://theatreorgans.com/hammond/faq/ HammondWiki: http://www.dairiki.org/HammondWiki/ hammond at zk3.dec.com archives: http://zk3.hammondforum.com/
